Original oil paintings that make you want to be there.

Paul Compton

“It’s rare to own a beautiful painting created by a former boss, client, and longtime friend in the arts. What’s equally rare is Chuck himself–a dedicated, versatile, creative force and wonderful person.”

How I Work

I am primarily a studio painter. Which is ironic because I paint landscapes most of the time.

Watching a painting come to life is always fun.

My process is always evolving, but in the case of, “Malta Olive Grove” I was dealing with a fairly complex composition so I started the painting by laying the foundation with a solid drawing before moving into color. I enjoy watching a good painting time lapse because it lets you see the artist’s brain at work. Drawing and painting is the result of multiple decisions being made along the way. You will also see in this video that I do not trace my images onto the surface. It is my feeling that, when creating representational work, strong drawing skills are the first step in putting my vision on the canvas.
